DIMAS was crucified like Jesus Christ. Both feet and hands were
fixed in the cross with sticks. There is no possibility that he
could be just tied up to the cross. This was not the way to crucify
great criminals. The crucifixion mattered in the transfixation of
both feet and hands in the cross. It was a terrible torture.
Crucified next to Jesus, DIMAS soon realized the calmness and sweetness
of Jesus. It is true that the evangelist talks about the thieves
that blasphemed, but, according to interpreters it is understood
in this plural as a way to talk aboutthe class of thieves, and not
to say that they would both speak blasphemy.
DIMAS observed the patience of Jesus and it moved him. Touched
by grace, he converts miraculously. Heroic was the faith and trust
of that poor thief in that hour. He would see by his side a crucified
man, blasphemed and insulted in mean ways by the people and priests.
Nevertheless, moved miraculously by grace, he recognized in the
crucified Jesus the Messiah and a God, the Lord of a Celestial Kingdom.
