The cult to Saint DIMAS was from the first centuries. Since Saint
Helen, mother of the Emperor Constantine, ordered to do some digging
and discovered the cross of the Savior, the cross of Saint DIMAS
was also found. The Saint Empress gave this precious relic to the
inhabitants of the Cypre Island. It was conserved there and worshipped
for centuries in the capital NICOSIS, today named LEFKOSIA. It got
hanged on the air miraculously behind the Great Altar.
This prodigy attracted many pilgrims and romaries. They came from
far away to worship the Good Thief, and many miracles and healing
happened in all the region by the invocation of Saint DIMAS.
A piece of this cross was taken to Constantinople and divided in
parts by several churches of Orient and Occident as the cult to
the Good Thief spread.
In the Church of Saint Cross of Jerusalem in Rome, in the Grand
Altar of the chapel of relics it can be found an important piece
of the arm of the cross of Saint Dimas.
