Dimas, when he met the Sacred Family in the desert and gave them
shelter, was about to twenty five to thirty years old. And in the
opinion of several authors he was about 55 to 60 when he perished
at the cross, and should have lived in crime for thirty to forty
years. After being chased down by the Roman Justice, that tried
to free Judea of the great bandits that infested it, and above all
the ones that attacked the Romans and provoked seditions.
DIMAS and GESTAS were caught around Jericho, and there they were
sentenced. PILATOS gave order that they should be taken to Jerusalem
to be flagellated and crucified, serving as an example to the dangerous
thieves in the surroundings.
DIMAS and GESTAS were hand and feet cuffed, and thrown in a horrible
public prison in Jerusalem, near the Pretoria of Pilatos. In this
underground infected dungeons, the condemned was wrapped in chains
and maintained next to the walls by iron wells. From prison the
condemned goes out to flagellation and crucifixion. DISMAS was cruelly
flagellated.
